The University of Queensland Australian Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of John Tootell as the QAFL Senior Coach for the forthcoming 2016 season.
A Tasmanian through his junior years, John has a long playing history, winning premierships and personal awards through the course of his career. John’s extensive coaching experience includes his selection as Senior Coach the Australian Navy and ADF senior sides for 5 years and 2 years respectively, coaching and development of the ADF women’s program and several years coaching in the ACT and FNQ leagues. John coached the Ainslie NEAFL Reserves to back to back premierships while also a selector and Assistant Coach to the Ainslie NEAFL side which finished as Preliminary finalists in 2012/2013. Recently as the Senior Coach of the Cairns City Lions, John has also been appointed to the role of Senior Coach for the North Queensland Representative team.
John brings to the UQAFC a successful coaching background combined with a broad experience of football styles, talent development and club structures at local, representative, regional and NEAFL level. His consultative style, listening skills and passion for his own skill development as a coach combine to see him well suited to the rapidly developing and enthusiastic UQAFC player group. With a coaching and club philosophy that is team based and focussed on hard work and constant improvement, John is a good fit with UQAFC’s drive to become an established competitor at QAFL level. Importantly John sees his role as a coaching mentor for the whole club with his wide ranging experience helping with the ongoing development of the UQAFC Colts, the QWAFL and QWAFA programs and uncovering a few hidden gems in the QAFA B squad.
We wish John all the best for the coming season. The club gratefully acknowledges the significant contribution of Travis Warren and Tm MacKinley in the selection and appointment process of this important position.
On behalf of the UQAFC we wish to thank all our supporters and sponsors for their contribution to the club’s success in 2015 and wish everyone a happy and safe new year. We look forward to welcoming every Red Lions supporter back to the club for the 2016 season.
