UQAFC Finishes the Weekend Undefeated

308187_10150278853321977_1667406_nCongratulations to all the teams who took the field for the UQAFC this weekend past. After comprehensive victories from the Div 2 Seniors and Reserves, a thumping win for the Div 3 Ressies and an unlucky draw for the Seniors, the mighty UQ Bulldogs U18 side stormed home against the Jimboomba Redbacks to see all five UQAFC sides finish the weekend unbeaten. Even the Fighting Fifths gave the Yeronga Div 4 team a fright at Yeronga during the friendly Saturday evening.

The U18’s effort was even more remarkable having won with only 17 available, including several U16 Wests Juniors who had backed up to help out after games earlier in the day. With a 5 goal lead at halftime the lads found themselves 2 goals behind at the next break before a stunning last quarter saw them home by 3 goals. The skills on display certainly impressed Senior Coaches Tim MacKinley and Darren Harvey who, with several other Div 2 regulars, were vocal supporters of the boys’ win. Coach Quentin Johnson was delighted with the win and paid credit to the team’s persistence and tenacity after a difficult start to the season against the top sides. Next weekend is an away game in Toowoomba with all registered players required to make the trip another success for the squad.

Next weekend Div 2 Seniors play their grand final rematch against Coorparoo at Giffen Park while the Div 3 group enjoy their first hit out at Oval 7 against Ipswich. With the U18’s up against the Darling Downs Crows in Toowoomba, the club looks forward to another successful hit out May 26/27.
