Rosy’s warriors have claimed back to back Division 3 Reserves titles overcoming Coomera 16.7.103 to 14.8.92 in a thrilling Grand Final at Wynnum AFC. It was a notably different lead up to 2013 for the 4ths who finished the regular season fourth on the ladder compared to their minor premiership in 2012. The boys had taken the scalps of Ipswich and Pine Rivers to earn the spot in the Grand Final and knew they would be in for a tough contest against the Magpie minor premiers.

Craig Dillon continued his finals hot streak, bagging 6 majors and picking up the Best on Ground award. Pat O’Shaugnessy battled tirelessly in the ruck for most of the day, supported by Tom Gould and Tom Cavaye when they weren’t holding the fort up forward and down back respectively. Young guns Jayden Astridge and Mark McCutcheon provided plenty of run off the wings, while the on-ball brigade of captain David Campbell, Scott Easdown, Luis Narvaez and Nick Bull worked in and under packs consistently.

A tight contest all day with the lead changing hands at every break, Coomera must be applauded for a fantastic battle. Both sides fought hard and put on a spectacle for the crowd and it was especially appreciated by the large and very vocal Red Lion contingent up on the clubhouse verandah. The Magpies were also represented in the senior Grand Final straight after and claimed the premiership in a great game against Beenleigh.

Well done to Rosy and his boys on their achievements in 2013. At various points throughout the year due to exams and uni holidays the side called on 5ths to assist with numbers, and often had half of their own side double up and play Seniors on a Saturday afternoon. Congratulations and best of luck to the 4ths boys as they attempt to go for the three-peat in 2014.
