Our IV side of 1993 ended the tournament on a fantsatic note by taking out the championship. The IV in 1993 was played at UQ which did give us an advantage. We had a great side made up of Red Lions of the day and QAFL senior players that were studying at UQ. We played the Grand Final against highly fancied Melbourne University. They went into the game reasonably confident that they could knock off the Queenslander upstarts – afterall, queenslanders dont play footy. Remember that this was back in the day when four premiership points against the Brisbane Bears was only just harder than playing BYE and the leading football codes north of the Murray river started with the word “rugby”. For the first three quarters the game was evenly balanced but in the last quarter we bolted home and won in the end quite comfortably. It was a great team full of great blokes. Whenever we meet up at the Gabba or the pub we reminisce about that great carnival.

The Red Lions should be certainties for the award – I am so proud of how far the club has come over the last few years! Great work by all of the unsung hero’s behind the scenes.

I spoke to Peter a week ago about playing for the Reserves second team and was told that i would receive an email about our training times this weekend just gone. Unfortunately I didn’t receive the email so I was just wondering if you could let me know when and where the training is so I can go along and get started.
