A few words on some Life Members that I can remember! All Life members were stalwarts of the club , assisting pre games with the setting up the tent ( to sell grog when we had no clubhouse ) . When I joined the club in 1973 , the club was an amateur club playing in a partly Professional competition . the club had a great social life , however emphasis was on playing hard , training hard ( if possible ) and drinking / socialising hard ! All members put in 100% for the club on the field , most achieving Best & Fairest award some year(s) and Loved their Footy!!
“Porky” as Bruce was affectionately known was playing when I commenced in 1973. He was a towering figure at Full Forward in the Reserves and also a great leader for the new guys joining the club. In those early 70’s many a party was held at Bruce’s parents house at Clayfield, and it was for a time an unofficial clubhouse for UQAFC. Porky had agreat sense of humour, and if it was not for the help of his parents, working tirelessly, as did Bruce for the club, Uni may have been in trouble a lot earlier than it was in the mid 80’s.
A great contributor to the club once again, on and off the field.
