The UQAFC would like to offer Dan Mauch our massive congratulations on his selection in the Brisbane Lions Reserves NEAFL team to take on Aspley this Saturday at the Gabba.
Dan’s selection is testament to the young man’s commitment to his football, driving down from Dalby twice a week to play for the Red Lions. Mauchie has grabbed his opportunity in the QAFL with both hands and has now been rewarded with his first NEAFL appearance.
At only 16 years of age, Dan started the year in our Colts squad before demanding senior opportunities with his attack on the ball. Despite giving away plenty of size to his opponents, Dan balances sublime skills with a ferociousness at the football that matches any of the men he comes up against.
UQAFC Senior Coach Matt Stewart could not speak more highly of the young man: “Dan is typical of the UQ story. We aim to attract talented young players and give them every opportunity to develop and play senior football.”
“Daniel has applied himself exceptionally, his talent is undeniable, but it is ability to stick to the game plan, play his role and sacrifice for the team that makes him invaluable”
“Dan is 16 and drives down from Dalby every Thursday to train and play on a Saturday. From day one we sore enormous potential in Dan and he has got better and better each week.”
“We as a club and coaching group are incredibly proud of Dan, his selection of the Lions is warranted and as a club and coaching team are right behind him and super excited at this opportunity.”
Dan is one of a number of boys who makes the trip down twice a week for the chance to play QAFL football. Noel Rockliff, father of fellow Red Lion Sam Rockliff, has become the long-range taxi driver for the boys.
Dan’s progression is a testament to the coaching staff at the Red Lions who have developed his football this year, and the opportunity that playing at UQ provides to young players.
The whole club would like to congratulate Dan on such a huge achievement, and wish him the best of luck on the big stage!
