So it’s all come down to this… Tomorrow, the QAFA Ressies chase the historic threepeat at Giffin Park, Birubi St, Coorparoo.
Under the watchful eyes of two-time premiership captain Crackers Campbell and Coach Peter Rosengren this highly skilled, well-oiled machine will continue it’s juggernaut against a spirited Carrara outfit.
After a well-earned week off after their solid victory in atrocious conditions against Redcliffe, UQ come into the game as favourites after two comprehensive wins against Carrara through the season. However, not to be underestimated, their opposition has done it the hard way, coming from fifth on the ladder to sneak into the Grand Final.
It has been a long couple of weeks on the track for the ressies, with a variety of sessions being held to ready the team for the biggest day of their lives.
The nature of this team is really quite incredible. There will be no less than sixteen new faces on the field from last year’s premiership triumph over Coomera. Revelations such as full-back Josh Chuah and hardman Josh Sielor, all the way through to the fairytale story that is Peter Dzodz, talisman of the group, who has missed the last two Grand Finals due to injury.
The Red Lions will be looking to exploit the vast open spaces of Coorparoo and take advantage of the week off, after watching their opponents be forced to slog it out in the pouring rain for the second week in a row.
The match will kick-off at 11:30am – but get on down to the Grand Final Breakfast at Oval 7, The Red Lion Arena, for the players and supporters from 9:00am, with a bus then set to take the UQ faithful to Giffin Park.
It’s sure to be a memorable day for all, so get behind our Red Lions and cheer them on as their stake their claim to be remembered as one of the greatest teams in this proud club’s history.
