QAFL Pre-Season Training Underway Tonight

All is set for a massive 2016 season with the UQAFC kicking off pre-season training this week.

Our flagship QAFL teams hit the track tonight looking to build on the platform set over the previous two seasons. After rising two divisions in two years, the past two years have seen the Red Lions surprise many by claiming a few big scalps and putting in a number of very competitive performances – particularly in the back half of the 2015 season.

This year the group will look to take another step up and push to become a genuine finals contender, and it all starts tonight… The pre-Christmas focus will be very much on touch work and general conditioning. With a coaching announcement to be made shortly it’s an exciting time to get on board at UQ – get along to Oval 7 from 6:15pm tonight!

QAFL training will run weekly at Oval 7 on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:15pm, with a break over the Christmas period. Please contact Travis Warren (0409 009 496) for more information about joining our State League QAFL group.

The QAFA guys will continue with their Freers sessions on Tuesday nights from 6:00pm, with Oval 7 sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm. If you want to play community footy with the Red Lions in 2016 please contact Peter Rosengren (0412 288 544) for more information.

Our ladies will formally re-commence after Christmas, but anyone wishing to get in some pre-season work is encouraged to join our QAFA guys at Freers on Tuesdays (fitness) and/or Oval 7 on Wednesdays (ballwork). Our ladies squad is one of the fastest growing and most exciting women’s programs in Queensland at both State League (QWAFL) and Community (QWAFA) level – prospective new recruits should contact Michael Swann (0405 843 969).

Our youngsters in the Colts had a tremendous 2015 and will look to go even better in 2016. At this stage, we’d encourage our colts to join in with either of our senior men’s groups (depending on skill and experience level). Contact Brenton Crilly (0416 848 408) to register your interest, or stay tuned for more information shortly.
