In July 2015 a committed group of Red Lions coaches, players and supporters will be making the trip over to Papua New Guinea to take on the infamous WWII trek along the Kokoda Trail.
The trip will be a chance for the participants to follow in the footsteps of the Aussie Diggers as they hike from Port Moresby to Kokoda over the Owen Stanley Range.
PNG has developed a reputation as a skillful AFL nation, recently claiming victory in the 2014 International Cup in Melbourne and having produced AFL players such as Mal Michael and James Gwilt.
A number of AFL teams have recently journeyed to PNG to tackle the trail, with Hawthorn and the Brisbane Lions having run pre-season camps on the mountains in the past few years to bring their playing groups together through the challenging trek.
The Red Lion trip will similarly forge strong friendships among the trekkers, with the invitation to participate open to both the extended Red Lion network as well as the boarder Queensland football community.
Organised by Peter and Michelle Rosengren, the group will embark on a “Feers” program leading up to the trip to get their bodies ready for the hike before jetting off to tackle the mountain range together.
An information night was held a few weeks ago, but there is still plenty of opportunity to find out more information about what’s planned by contacting Michelle on 0407 149 915 or Peter on 0412 288 544.
A Kokoda Information Pack will be available for interested participants which includes details about flights, pre-trek training, equipment, visa etc.
This will be an amazing trip which you do not want to miss out! Get in touch now to register your interest and get on board the 2015 Red Lions Kokoda Trip!
